Eminem 'Kamikaze' Review

Eminem 'Kamikaze' Review

Considering Eminem dropped this project on us out of nowhere, we needed a couple of days to not just get familiar with the album, but get re-familiar with Eminem himself. He isn't the real Slim Shady anymore, he's evolved. He's angrier. He's taking no prisoners.

When you press play on 'Kamikaze', you know you're in for a ride. The production is very similar to the style of music that made him famous, so there's a familiarity to the beat as he begins to destroy the rap game and all the rappers in it. People are saying that he's blaming everyone but himself and that this isn't up to his usual standard, and although I understand where they are coming from, I disagree.

There's always been something endearing about his ego and his slander on the game, especially as he ages and new rappers emerge to take his place. We've never loved Eminem for his rapping talent per se, we loved him for his ability to tell a story in a series of nonsensical bars, to make fun of the world in which he lives and his whole personality of taking no shit.

People seem to forget what Eminem is all about. He's not here to produce a perfectly edited, perfectly flowing project. He's here to spit the raps he wants and express his opinion. His opinion now? That he's the best. And hey, how is that different from every other fucking rapper in the game? Just because there are new rappers out there doesn't mean the King can't return to his throne when he wants to.

Top song of the album is for sure 'The Ringer', where he raps over a pretty lowkey beat. Tell me lyrics below aren't reminiscent of his 2000s tunes, I dare you.

"So finger-bang, chicken wang, MGK, Iggy 'zae
Lil Pump, Lil Xan imitate Lil Wayne
I should aim at everybody in the game, pick a name
I'm fed up with bein' humble"

-The Ringer

'Greatest' and 'Lucky You' are also bangers, with 'Greatest' even ripping into Kendrick's 'HUMBLE'. Anyone who says Eminem can't make a banger, I urge you to not bop your head along to the tracks on this album. The inclusion of skits is also true Eminem style that always adds to the whole project.

Revival didn't go viral!
Denaun and Royce tell me that I should take the high road

-Greatest

So many listeners are comparing this track to his 2017 offering 'Revival' which is unfair. This is its own project, and although it's produced by the same artist they are totally different albums. I for one am enjoying listening to this era of Eminem - he almost sounds like he did on 'Curtain Call'. 'Revival' didn't really do it for me, but 'Kamikaze' does.

He is, in fact, a Kamikaze in this album. Ready to crash and doesn't give a fuck who he takes with him.

Overall rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
