The Life Of Kanye: Wests' 2016 Meltdown

The Life Of Kanye: Wests' 2016 Meltdown

There's no denying 2016 was a particularly colourful year for Kanye West.

Known for his outspoken and unpredictable behaviour, West has often made headlines because of his transparent personal life, strong opinions and ever-changing art.

He's made headlines recently, however, because of his political views, health issues, celebrity feuds and mindless rants.

It looks as though West's life and career have taken a downward spiral in the last few months since his wife, Kim Kardashian-West, was robbed in Paris in October, but on closer look, his 2016 meltdown began long before that.

Here is a rundown of how 2016 fell apart for Kanye West.

We first saw the signs way back in January 2016. What seemed like regular West news then, is now part of the timeline leading up to his hospitalisation.
26 Jan - After announcing his seventh studio album, 'Swish' - previously named 'So Help Me God' - West revealed a third album name change to 'Waves' less than a month before it was due to drop on 11 February.

27 Jan - On this day, West dedicated more than 25 Tweets to dissing Wiz Khalifa which sparked a Twitter Feud between him and their shared ex Amber Rose. West took to Twitter after Khalifa trash-talked West's choice of album name, 'Waves'. Amber Rose responded via Twitter leading to a string of inappropriate tweets that have now been deleted.

9 Feb - Kanye ignited another Twitter storm in February when he tweeted in support of Bill Cosby's innocence. Many people were outraged but Kanye continued on as though nothing had happening and followed up with a Tweet about NBA.

11 Feb - After three previous album name changes, Kanye announced a fourth album name-change ahead of it's premiere release at Maddison Square Garden: 'The Life Of Pablo'.

13 Feb - Two days after 'The Life Of Pablo's scheduled release, 'The Life Of Pablo' was actually released. Kanye blamed Chance The Rapper for the album's delay and Chance responded in agreement saying the world is a better place because of his track 'Waves'.

13 Feb - Kanye took to Twitter again to announce he was $53 million in debt leaving him unable to create his art and also leaving many people confused.

14 Feb - Following on from his string of Tweets relating to his financial situation, Kanye publicly asked Facebook's founder Mark Zuckerberg for financial assistance.

1 Apr - Two months after 'The Life Of Pablo' was exclusively released on Jay Z's subscription based, music streaming service, Tidal - and after Kanye tweeted that it would never be available on iTunes or for sale - it was leaked and made available on iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify and other major services.

24 Jun - West unveiled video for 'Famous' at stadium event in Los Angeles shocking audience with visual of 12 naked celebrities in bed together. Celebrities include George W. Bush, Anna Wintour, Donald Trump, Rihanna, Chris Brown, Taylor Swift, Kanye West, Kim Kardashian-West, Ray J, Amber Rose, Caitlyn Jenner and Bill Cosby. The controversial image channels artist Vincent Desiderio’s Sleep.

17 Jul - West's wife, Kim Kardashian-West, posted a series of Snapchat videos revealing a conversation between Taylor Swift and Kanye West where Swift said, "go with whatever line you think is better. It's obviously very tongue in cheek either way. And I really appreciate you telling me about it, that's really nice".

4 Sept - West announced a multiracial model casting call that received plenty of backlash on social media.

2 Oct - On 2 October, 2016 news broke of Kim Kardashian's robbery in Paris where she was robbed at gunpoint in a private residence by assailants disguised as police who stole millions of pounds worth of the reality TV star's jewellery. West was performing at the time at the Meadows Music And Arts Festival at Citi Field in New York and abruptly ended his performance as soon as he heard the news, saying it was a "family emergency". This traumatic event sent the pair on an emotional rollercoaster as they tried to recover out of the public eye.
19 Oct - West revealed his beef with rapper and old friend Jay Z at a concert in Seattle saying he was upset Jay Z didn't pay him a visit after Kardashian's robbery.

3 Nov - West cuts his show short at the Forum in Los Angeles when his vocals failed on him saying he can't finish the show and will do better next time.

17 Nov - West surprised fans at a concert in California when he admitted he liked some of Donald Trump's campaign saying he didn't vote, but if he did he "would've voted for Trump".
19 Nov - West took to the stage to deliver the performance of his life where he disappointed audiences by showing up an hour and a half late, delivering a 17-minute rant, played three songs and dropped the mic, cutting the show short. The show was at Sacramento, California, where he lashed out at Beyoncé, Jay Z, Hillary Clinton and more.
20 Nov - News came the next day that West had cancelled his make-up show in Los Angeles just hours before doors opened.

21 Nov - West was hospitalised after a reported meltdown when police were called to a disturbance at his home. Different sources reported varied causes for his hospitalisation with TMZ saying he had a nervous breakdown triggered by the anniversary of his mother's funeral and Page Six reporting he suffered temporary psychosis from extreme exhaustion. West was under observation in hospital for a week.

14 Dec - West kept things pretty quiet after his return until he made a public yet mysterious visit to Trump Towers to meet with then President-elect Donald Trump. When Trump was asked about what the pair discussed in their meeting, he said they talked about life.

2016 got progressively worse for Kanye West. Starting off with Twitter storms - a normal day-to-day event for A-list celebrities these days - and ending up hospitalised with "temporary psychosis", no one knows what to expect next from Kanye West. Well-known as a genius and visionary, it could be argued that each event in West's timeline may be a piece of his puzzle towards world domination. If all goes to plan, we may even see him run for President in 2020 as promised.
